Vic Henshall, Conductor

Having grown up singing regularly in choirs, school choirs and the Ulster Youth Choir, I was fortunate to have a good grounding in vocal technique and choral singing.

I went on to study Music at Nottingham University where I sang with their Chamber Choir – Viva Voce, and the University Philharmonic Choir. My education in teaching singing to all ages continued when I did my PCGE and Masters in Education at Cambridge University, where we were also encouraged to see the voice as the key to music learning.

I then attended the British Kodaly Academy training and gained my LRSM Diploma in Choral Direction from the ABRSM with Sing for Pleasure. These are both wonderful organisations that encourage a love of choral singing for everyone. Since then, I have taught classroom and extra curricular music in secondary schools and am currently working at Beaconsfield High School as a classroom teacher, as well as with the highly skilled and award winning BHS Chamber Choir. This has given opportunities for European Cathedral Tours, joint performances with Taplow Girls Choir and joint ventures with Reading University and professional choirs on its way.

Community group conducting has included taking the John Lewis Partnership Choir through to the finals of the National PartnerSing competition, as well as various local church choirs. I really hope everyone will find NMC to be friendly, encouraging and perhaps a little stretching!
