About the Choir

New Maidenhead Choir is all about a passion for singing, together, in harmony to make the best sound possible and having fun doing it!

Summer Songs Concert, 2017

How it all started

New Maidenhead Choir was started by Victoria Henshall in November 2015. Since then, we have grown to a choir of about 50 regular members with many ladies and up to 15 men. We want an excellent choral experience for “anyone who loves to sing” with every level of ability and confidence welcome. You don’t need to read music,  we teach everything you need to perform well and we aim to help with reading music and getting a better vocal sound individually and as a group.

We sing SATB music with styles ranging from jazz, spirituals, gospel songs, folk songs, South African part-songs to contemporary arrangements by the Pentatonix, Mumford and Sons, Nina Simone, as well as more classical settings by Lauridsen and Christmas music such as Carol of the Bells and Gaudete

I thoroughly enjoyed accompanying New Maidenhead Choir for their Christmas Concert. The choir performs a wide variety of repertoire under the energetic and inspiring direction of Vic Henshall. Music is rehearsed with great attention to detail and the members are keen to perform to the highest possible standard. The choir clearly enjoys its friendly atmosphere which in turn transmits to the audience, leaving those listening wanting more.

Accompanist

We have performed at Community Choir Showcases, most recently, the Beaconsfield Festival of Choirs.  We have also performed at the UK Choir Festival with very positive feedback on our sound from the workshop leaders.  Our own concerts have included joint Christmas concerts with Marlow Gospel Choir, “Summer Songs” in Eton and “Folk Songs in Spring” at The Old Court in Windsor with a local folk band.

We look forward to performing at Norden Farm and returning again to the Maidenhead Festival. We run annual Come and Sing Events to welcome new singers, and are involved in community events in Maidenhead. These have included the Switch On of the Christmas Lights, Gin in the Park, the Beer and Cider Festival and charity collection performances in the Nicholson Shopping Centre.  We perform at Christmas time in the beautiful setting of St George’s Hall in Windsor Castle.
